Baystate Health, a Truven® Award–winning healthcare system and home of the University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate, is searching for an experienced cardiac surgeon to join Baystate Health’s award winning Heart & Vascular Program as Chief of Cardiac Surgery.

This opportunity features:

  • Direct, lead, and mentor the Heart and Vascular cardiac surgery team that is ranked among the top 15 hospitals in America for heart surgery by Consumer Reports
  • Ability to promote scholarship, including clinical, QI and outcomes-based research and to provide scholarly mentorship to the team
  • A key leadership role in the Heart and Vascular team, collaborating with leaders within our system and other regional hospitals and providers to grow the Heart and Vascular Program across Western MA

Ideal candidate should be a nationally recognized cardiac surgeon with the ability to lead a high volume and growing program that is top ranked for quality and outcomes and is the sole cardiac surgery throughout Western Massachusetts. Candidates should have experience as a clinician-educator/researcher with outstanding clinical skills, and will qualify as an Associate Professor or Professor at UMASS Medical School-Baystate. In addition to exceptional clinical practice, foci of this position will include leadership around quality and patient safety, patient experience, value, and academics. Ongoing program development, research, and regulatory compliance are expected.

Housed in a new patient tower that includes dedicated CV operating suites with advanced imaging, The Heart and Vascular Program at Baystate Health is among the best in the nation and serves Baystate Medical Center, an academic 700+ bed facility, as well as our network of community hospitals. A truly regional cardiac surgery program, Baystate Medical Center performs more than 80% of cardiac surgery for residents of western MA. This high volume, high quality program is amongst the busiest in the state for cardiac surgery and PCI by volume. There is an active TAVR program, with initiation of VAD and percutaneous mitral therapy in place. Baystate Medical Center is one of only two hospitals in the state, and one of only 15 in the country to earn a top score from Consumer Reports for cardiac surgery.
