Chief, Pediatric Oncology Branch
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking an outstanding physician-scientist to serve as Chief of the Pediatric Oncology Branch (POB) in the Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The Pediatric Oncology Branch is a national leader in pediatric oncologic translational clinical research. The Chief of POB oversees a group of investigators dedicated to the study and treatment of childhood cancers, an accredited joint fellowship training program with nearby Johns Hopkins University, an active clinical program, and collaborative initiatives with a variety of academic and industrial partners. Current areas of focus include improving detection, diagnosis, classification, and treatment by applying state-of-the-art advanced biomedical technologies and molecular approaches; development of new treatment strategies, including targeted small molecule and cell-based therapies and novel delivery systems that provide more effective treatments for high risk and metastatic disease. The National Cancer Institute is part of the National Institutes of Health in the Department of Health and Human Services, a federal government agency. The Center for Cancer Research is the largest component of the intramural biomedical research effort at NIH and a major user of the NIH Clinical Research Center, a state-of-the-art research hospital on the campus of NIH in Bethesda, Maryland. CCR offers a tremendous depth and breadth of intellectual and technological resources, as well as opportunities for collaboration with investigators both within and outside of the NIH. The research environment is highly conducive to advancing translational research and highly collaborative, emphasizing multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary team science.
The successful candidate must have an MD degree or equivalent, an established record in pediatric oncologic research, demonstrated leadership ability, proven effectiveness in mentoring and training, and an interest in basic, translational, and clinical research applicable to pediatric cancer.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
