Facility: International Heart Institute of Montana

The International Heart Institute of Montana is an internationally recognized, comprehensive and collaborative practice offering full vascular, cardiac and thoracic interventions and services. The IHI is located on the campus of Missoula's St. Patrick Hospital and has received numerous awards as one of the Top 50 Cardiovascular programs from Truven Health. Researchers and cardiologists have created an atmosphere of intellectual curiosity and discovery to advance cardiac care. Physicians work alongside scientists to apply new treatments from the lab to the patient. Each year the institute hosts the annual Rocky Mountain Valve Symposium, which draws the top heart specialists from around the world for workshops, lectures and training in new procedures. Our heart specialists regularly travel to eleven IHI clinics as well as to other communities across western Montana and Idaho for medical consultations.

Polson is located within the Flathead Indian Reservation on edge of the largest and arguably most beautiful body of fresh water in the West. Flathead Lake, the geographic centerpiece of this part of Montana, is framed by some of the Rockies' most scenic and spectacular subranges, including the Mission, Salish and Swan Mountains. Life moves at a slower pace here but it is anything but boring. From hiking, hunting and fishing to famous car shows and other community events, residents clearly don't take each other or their amazing natural surroundings for granted. There is a rich cultural heritage in Polson as well, both in terms of its “wild west” history as a cattle and logging town and its more distant history as the native lands of the Salish, Kootenai and Pend d'Oreille peoples. Museums, parks and a cultural center preserve the ways of the past. Living history is also apparent in the form of Native American people and events as well as cattle ranches and farms that continue to operate in the area.
