Health Imperatives (HI) is seeking to contract with a Massachusetts Board Certified Pediatrician or Family Practice Physician to oversee the medical components of its DYS Adolescent Health Services Programs in Southeastern Massachusetts two ( 2) days per week.

Health Imperatives, a non-profit human services agency based in Southeastern MA, currently contracts with the Department of Youth Services (DYS) to provide primary care to youth incarcerated in two main facilities in Taunton and Brockton, as well as in five residential programs in Braintree, Brockton, New Bedford, Fall River, and Plymouth. In addition to a Medical Director, Health Imperatives also sub-contracts with a Board Certified psychiatrist to provide psychiatric services to youth, as identified by the DYS Behavioral Health Team. An on-site Nurse Manager and a Program Director provide leadership and management on the Medical and Operations/Administrative components of the program.

Responsibilities of the Medical Director include:

o   Establish Collaborative Practice Agreements with four Nurse Practitioners serving as supervising physician providing prescriptive privileges.

o   Provide 5-7 hours per week of primary care services to DYS residents triaged by mid-level providers. These hours may include time for consultation between NP, RN, and MD.

o   Provide on-call services/guidance to mid-level and RN providers during business hours.

o   Develop, approve, and perform annual review of clinical protocols/practice guidelines.

o   Develop relationships with local hospitals and providers to coordinate discharge planning, and ensure continuity of care for DYS residents.

o   Attend monthly meetings of the Health Services staff - currently held in Brockton.

  • Meet quarterly with the Medical Director of the DYS Western Region to ensure consistency in the delivery of health care between regions.

o   Provide telephone backup services to the Western Region programs as needed.

  • Attend meetings on a quarterly basis with the DYS statewide Health Services team of Regional Medical Directors, Nurse Managers, and administrative Management in conjunction with the DYS Director of Health Services – currently held in Grafton.
  • Conduct annual clinical evaluations of mid-level providers including quarterly chart reviews in accordance with DYS utilization review standards utilizing the DYS assessment format.
  • Meeting, as needed, with agency senior leadership to assist in identifying administrative procedural needs and the development of procedures to address such needs.

o   Coordinate and attend joint meetings with the Family Planning Medical Director

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         The Medical Director must be Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board Certified in Pediatrics or Family Medicine.

·         Interest and experience in working with adolescents.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Experience working in locked facilities preferred.

·         Bi-lingual/bi-cultural preferred.
