Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking nominations and applications in its search for a physician/scientist (MD or MD/PhD) to serve as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at Boston Children’s Hospital with an appointment at Harvard Medical School.

In this newly created position reporting to both the CEO and the EVP & COO, the CSO will play a vital role in advancing the world’s largest research enterprise based at a pediatric medical center, with more than $300 million in annual funding. The CSO will chair or serve as a member of the key committees that provide direction and financial support to the research enterprise and will represent this vibrant, diverse research community both with hospital leadership and to a wide range of stakeholders in the private and public funding sectors. The CSO will work collaboratively with the research community to ensure that its work is in alignment with the hospital’s overall strategic plan.

The successful candidate will be a strong basic scientist with a reputation commensurate with the quality and reputation of the research program at Boston Children’s. In addition to a strong record of scientific accomplishment, the CSO must have demonstrated leadership experience in a large, complex scientific enterprise. Finally, the CSO must be collaborative, capable of working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, able to embrace basic, clinical, and translational research with equal passion and conviction, and able to communicate to a wide range of audiences.
