JOB SUMMARY:Indivumed, a company based in Hamburg, Germany, is an integrated oncology company that leverages its bio repository of human tissue samples with its diagnostic laboratory to develop individual cancer therapies. Indivumed maintains a bio bank of tissues and annotated data from more than 20,000 patients and will integrate its unique bio banking standards at Geisinger Health System to jointly create a platform that offers extraordinary opportunities for clinical research focused on tumor biology.

Indivumed and Geisinger Health System have partnered to collect samples from consenting patients who are already undergoing a surgical tumor resection. Upon resection, a portion of the tissue, blood or urine remaining beyond what is required to make a clinical diagnosis will be banked at Geisinger. Another portion will be banked by Indivumed, which will analyze the tissue to be used in the development and, eventually, application of targeted therapies for cancer patients.

Under the direction of the Indivumed Bio Bank Supervisor, is responsible for the support and coordination of both the Indivumed and Geisinger Tissue Banks. Serves in an advanced responsibility to assess the appropriateness of patients for participation in tissue bank protocols, meets with patients in the clinic and hospital (pre –surgery, during surgery and post-surgery) to collect multiple data points required for the tissue bank protocols. Additional data management functions include: data organizing, data entry, data analysis and data maintenance.

Reports directly to Indivumed Bio Bank Supervisor and/or the Operations Director of Anatomic Pathology.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* 1. Coordinates the study protocols to determine subject eligibility, recruitment, screening, enrollment, follow-up and retention of eligible subjects according to protocol requirements.

* 2. Implements subject recruitment plans including contacting and interviewing subjects pre and post-surgery, collaborating with surgeons, screening, consenting and enrolling.

* 3. Utilizes both IndivuNet and Geisinger software to document and track study related data points.

* 4. Abstracts data from EPIC medical record and enters information into protocol data base.

* 5. Coordinates the services of Surgical Pathology Lab to ensure proper scheduling and awareness of bio-banking patients and procedures

* 6. Serves as a liaison for Surgical Pathology and Operating Room to ensure appropriate procedures are in place.

* 7. Obtains, prepares and processes tissue specimens, blood and urine from the Operating Room according to a prescribed protocol in a timely and precise manner.

* 8. Will be required to abide by all Operating Room protocols and procedures when in the Operating Room.

* 9. Must be meticulous in data management: ensures accurate and timely data entry.

* 10. Responsible for data analysis of the enrolled subjects and the required data elements.

*11. Responsible for data maintenance and adept knowledge of the two selected software
applications: IndivuNet and the Geisinger database.

*12. Accuracy and strict adherence to all Indivumed protocols

* 13. Must be able to provide timely, consistent, accurate written and verbal communications to meet prescribed protocols.

14. Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:Position requires excellent professional communication with patients in a clinical setting ; supporting the goals and objectives of the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction

Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficiency of computer operations including Microsoft Office applications and database management software.

Demonstrates knowledge of research data collection and medical terminology.

Demonstrates strong organizational skills with great attention to detail.

Demonstrates the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other team members

Must be self-directed.

Demonstrates competence in written, oral and electronic communication skills.




EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, life sciences or science-related field or Registered Nurse (RN).

Minimum of two years of research experience is required.

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline or health related field is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is performed in a laboratory environment, the Operating Room and in the clinic setting.

Some overnight travel may be required.
