Location: Forty-Fort ClinicWork Schedule: DaysWork Type: FULL TIMEHiring Manager: Brenda Finucane JOB SUMMARY:The Speech-Language Pathologist in the Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute performs speech/language evaluations and augmentative & alternative communication assessments according to hospital, state, professional and federal regulations and guidelines; meets the standards set system-wide for Speech-Language Pathologists; and creates an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by providing patient safety and patient-centered treatment. In addition, the position:· Requires effective communication skills for working with patients, families, and caregivers.· Requires effective communication skills for departmental and interdepartmental relationships.· Requires competency in speech-language pathology evaluation, assessment, care planning and treatment.· Requires task delegation and supervision of fellows, technicians and assistants (when applicable).· Maintains open and on-going communication with hospital departments to ensure patients, staff, and hospital needs are met.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Essential Job Functions1. *Performs speech/language evaluations and augmentative & alternative communication assessments as part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary developmental medicine, psychology, neuroscience, and genomics team2. *Works within a busy, stimulating clinical and research environment serving individuals with diverse neurodevelopmental challenges and complex communication needs3. *Has a desire to develop clinical expertise and research interests through specialty clinics for fragile X, Smith-Magenis, 22q11.2 deletion, and other genetic syndromes4. *Collaborates with children’s school and behavioral teams to develop and implement treatment recommendations and therapy plans5. *Educates members of the clinical and research team to increase their understanding of speech and language disorders and the use of augmentative and alternative communication strategies and devices6. *Maintains current licensure and certifications7. *Bills for assessments and other activities in compliance with corporate policy and regulation bodies8. *Documents subject/patient assessment, planning and care on appropriate forms following corporate and hospital policy and procedures.*Denotes essential job functions.SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:· Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team· Ability to speak, read, write, and communicate effectively· Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner· Ability to work independently without supervision· Ability to think critically and evaluate the research evidence for specific therapies and practices in the field of speech-language pathologyEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:License or Certification Required:· Master's degree in Speech Pathology· Active Pennsylvania state speech-language pathologist license· ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)· CPR certification preferred unless otherwise required by hospital policyEducation/Experience Preferred:· Master’s degree in communication disorders, or equivalent field, from accredited program· Experience working with children with neurodevelopmental disorders, such as developmental delay, intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorder· Interest and experience in augmentative & alternative communication (AAC) for children with complex communication needs· Familiarity with research methods and evidence-based practices in the field of speech-language pathology· Additional education, training, or experience in augmentative & alternative communication is preferredWORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is typically performed in a clinical/office environment Geisinger Health System is an integrated health services organization widely recognized for its innovative use of the electronic health record, and the development of innovative care models such as ProvenHealth Navigator® and ProvenCare®.
