JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Director, Research and Clinical Operations for Orthopaedic Surgery, this position is responsible for oversight of clinical research projects including implementation protocol development, project planning, team management, project tracking, and data collection and assisting in the creation of final reports and publications.

Secondary responsibilities include assisting with the development and management of new projects.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Administration:
*a. Works with experienced project managers, research coordinators, and clinical researchers to implement funded studies.
*b. Monitors study budgets.
*c. Ensures adherence to federal or other regulatory requirements (i.e. IRB).

2. Study Implementation:
*a. Assists in the development, implementation and management of protocols for funded projects.
*b. Under supervision, implements a project plan and provides overall project management, including management of the study team, progress tracking and reporting, quality control, recruitment and research support staff training and management.
*c. Coordinates all research project-related activities to meet project goals and milestones, based on study design.

3. Communication:
*a. Communicates resource needs, issues, project status and milestones met to project team and project leader.
*b. Develops and delivers study specific material (e.g. tracking logs, templates, monitoring tools, study binders, process manuals).
c. Aids in preparation of final reports and manuscripts for publication.
*d. Handles sensitive project issues and provides resolution.

4. Science and analysis:
*a. Coordinates with the data analyst in managing data and implementing quality control procedures.
b. Under the direction of the Research Investigator, contributes to preparation of grant applications.

5. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Demonstrates experience with software (word-processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet required; some experience with SAS preferred).

(interpersonal communication and technological effectiveness competencies).

Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as with multidisciplinary teams.

Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Demonstrates strong familiarity with relational database concepts and software development concepts.

Demonstrates the ability to lead others, assign workload, organize projects, prioritize the work of others, and resolve problems that arise.

Demonstrates the ability to prepare project plans, estimate cost and time appropriately and assist with budgets and planning

Demonstrates the ability to learn independently. Must be able to handle on-call situations and be available 24 hours a day while serving on-call.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent with applicable project coordination/research assistant experience required (in a science-related field with medical or clinical research focus with minimum one year applicable experience in project coordination/research assistant position(s) required.)

Master's degree in Public Health or related field and experience with a medical or clinical research focus preferred.
