INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM DIRECTOR-GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER

  Geisinger Health System is seeking a program director or the Internal Medicine residency program at Geisinger Medical Center, located in Danville, PA.  

The position is part of the Internal Medicine Education Team, including three APDs, the Program Director and the Program Coordinator. Geisinger offers many residencies and fellowships, including 54 internal medicine residents and 20 med-peds residents, and 8 medical fellowships. 

 

The program director will provide leadership for all aspects of internal medicine resident training. The position includes 0.6 funded time for focus on residency and 0.4 clinical activity.  The successful candidate will be a board certified internist with at least 5 years of participation as an active faculty member in an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency program, at least three years of Graduate Medical Education administrative experience, and clinical practice in a hospital, ambulatory or health system setting. Sub specialists may also be considered. 

 

Requirements include skill in residency leadership, experience in medical education including working knowledge of ACGME,  ABIM and AOBIM systems and requirements, and ongoing ABIM or AOBIM maintenance of certification. The program director oversees all aspects of the administration, recruitment, selection, education, supervision, and monitoring of residents.

 

The Program Director reports directly to the Chair of Medicine and the Designated Institutional Official.

 

Clinical activities include direct supervision of residents in hospital or ambulatory practice.

 

Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.  GMC, a MagnetHospital, maintains the region’s only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics.
