Intermountain Healthcare TeleHealth Infectious Diseases Physician

We seek applicants to join the Intermountain Medical Center Division of Clinical Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at an academic rank of assistant or associate professor.  Intermountain Healthcare is an integrated healthcare system with 22 hospitals throughout Utah and Southern Idaho.   We are seeking two physicians to help develop a new program to improve the infectious diseases care of patients in small, community hospitals located in Utah and Idaho.  These physicians will be responsible for the operations and development of the TeleHealth Infectious Diseases Program, physically located at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, UT (suburb of Salt Lake City).  This new program will include 2 infectious diseases physicians, 1 infectious diseases PharmD, 1 nurse operations manager, and a part-time analyst.  The position involves research, teaching, and program development, as well as provision of excellent clinical care.

The goal of the TeleHealth Infectious Disease Program is to increase the presence of infectious diseases services (consultation, stewardship, and infection control) throughout Intermountain Healthcare through the use of Intermountain’s TeleHealth infrastructure and electronic surveillance tools.

We expect the physician leaders to:

·         Provide infectious diseases consultation for Intermountain facilities that lack infectious diseases providers (15 hospitals) using the TeleHealth platform.

·         Provide traditional infectious diseases consultation at Intermountain Medical Center and LDS Hospital.

·         Support the infectious diseases PharmD in antimicrobial stewardship activities.  This includes developing an outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy management and tracking system.

·         Develop an outpatient infectious diseases clinic for regional hospitals using TeleHealth infrastructure.

·         Collaborate with tele-critical care, tele-stroke, and tele-wound care clinicians on patient management issues and protocol development.

·         Facilitate and provide antibiotic and infectious diseases related education to communities and Intermountain Healthcare providers.

·         Provide infectious diseases support to local infection preventionists.

·         Support TeleHealth Outreach efforts to non-Intermountain Healthcare facilities.

·         Serve as principal investigators in research related to TeleHealth and present findings at national meetings.  This will be done through continuous evaluation of the programs objectives and outcomes via data analytics.

·         Qualify for a University of Utah or Stanford University faculty appointment.

Physician skills and background:

·         Infectious diseases board certified/eligible.

·         Experience and demonstrated scholarly interest in infectious diseases.

·         Excellent communication skills and good teaching ability.

·         Ability and desire to support the quality improvement, teaching and research activities of the division and Intermountain Healthcare.

·         Demonstrated leadership skills to supervise the delivery of antimicrobial stewardship services and program development.

Physician Clinical Responsibilities:

·         20 weeks/year staffing the TeleHealth Infectious Diseases consultation service.  The service is available Mon – Friday.

·         8 – 12 weeks of traditional infectious disease consultation at Intermountain Medical Center or LDS Hospital.

·         The remaining physician non-clinical time will be spent on protocol development, community outreach, education, research, and program evaluation.

·         This position is salaried by Intermountain Healthcare.  Salary depends on academic rank.   A generous benefit package and relocation stipend is included.
