The FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), Immediate Office of the Center Director, is searching for a Center Director. CBER is responsible for promoting and protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, effectiveness, and quality of biological products, including blood and blood products, vaccines, and cellular, tissue, and gene therapies.

As the Director, the incumbent leads the Center and provides executive direction to the Center's regulatory, scientific, and policy activities related to the regulation of biological products under the biological product control provisions of the Public Health Service Act and applicable provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act; directs Center activities regarding planning, implementing, and evaluating programs concerning budget and resource utilization, including the Center's User Fee programs; oversees Center extramural programs, including technical and administrative contracts and grant activities; provides strategic direction to studies that evaluate the performance  and management of the Center and directs implementation of study recommendations. The Center has an annual budget of approximately $300 million and more than 1,000 employees.

Qualifications:

Must be a US Citizen with an MD or PhD or other research doctoral degree widely recognized in U.S. academe as equivalent to a doctoral degree. Candidates may also be a member for the U.S. Public Health Service, Commissioned Corps.

All candidates must possess specialized knowledge and experience in the regulation and development of biological products, including the evaluation of safety, effectiveness, and product quality; extensive experience and knowledge of the FDA’s regulatory and review process; strong leadership and significant executive management experience; excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders; and outstanding oral and written communication skills.

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Applicants should provide such evidence when applying.
