Postdoctoral Fellow Cluster Hire

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with a background in Human Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, Statistical Genetics, Population Genetics, and/or Bioinformatics for postdoctoral positions at Geisinger Health System in the Department of Biomedical and Translational Informatics.  We are currently accessing phenotypic data across the de-identified electronic health records (EHR) of Geisinger Health System. The Geisinger MyCode project is performing whole exome sequencing and genome-wide genotyping assays on over 50,000 individuals with plans to expand to 250,000 individuals.  Research in our group is highly collaborative, with broad research opportunities for exploring the genetic architecture of complex traits in diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, neurodevelopmental/psychiatric disorders, pharmacogenomic traits, as well as rare and Mendelian diseases among others. The approaches we explore will involve the development and application of new statistical and computational methods with a focus on the detection of gene-gene interactions, gene-environment interactions, deep phenotyping with advanced imaging and image analytics, and network and/or pathway effects associated with human disease.  Our meta-dimensional approaches hold the promise of providing a more comprehensive view of genetic and genomic information.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The ideal candidate will have a desire to work within a team and will have strong scientific written, verbal, and electronic communication skills, such as manuscript writing and scientific presentation skills.

Additionally, candidates must have:

·         Experience manipulating large-scale genomic data and efficient utilization of computer clusters.

·         Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases for the analysis of genetics data.

·         Record of peer-reviewed publications.

·         Statistical analysis experience using R, SAS, or STATA required and programming abilities such as python or perl is desired.

Faculty seeking postdocs include: Dr. Brandon Fornwalt, Dr. David Ledbetter, Dr. Christa Martin, Dr. Andrew Michael, Dr. Greg Moore, Dr. Sarah Pendergrass, Dr. Marylyn Ritchie, and Dr. Marc Williams.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Ph.D. degree in the area of Genetic Epidemiology, Human Genetics, Statistical Genetics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Population Genetics, and/or Bioinformatics or M.D with appropriate research experience required.
