JOB SUMMARY:Responsible for the financial management of all clinical trials managed by the Center for Clinical Studies (CCS). Works independently as the financial and contract manager by providing proactive financial support including clinical trial budget development, clinical trial performance analyses, and operational/strategic financial analysis. Provides financial reporting and analysis to enable the trial investigator or designee to make timely, informed, and financially sound decisions. Responsibilities will also include project planning, team management, and project tracking.

Reports to Vice President, Clinical Research and Operations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*1. Administration:
a. Prepare and negotiate all industry-sponsored budgets and contracts with internal and external sponsors
b. Oversee all contract and budget start up activities for CCS-managed studies
c. Oversee the project billing reconciliation process for all trials managed by the CCX
d. Independently prepare and monitor monthly and ad hoc reports for financial benchmarking
e. Analyze and report study financial performance data from an operational and strategic viewpoint, focusing on identification of opportunities for improvement.

*2. Communication:
a. Provide proactive communication and support regarding ongoing trial financial status to study coordinators and principal investigators within and outside of the CCS.
b. Communicate budget issues with appropriate clinical research coordinators in timely manner and help them to work towards resolution.
c. Communicate effectively with Research Finance to ensure accurate, timely management and reporting of clinical trial financials.
d. Prepare and clearly present clinical trial financial status information to Leadership on a routine and ad hoc basis.
e. Assist with the development and presentation of annual CCS departmental budget and long term forecasting
f. Supervise, delegate tasks, and monitor performance of reporting financial staff

*3. Research & Project data management:
a. Manage ongoing project budgets/financial analyses
b. Assess clinical trial budgets monthly and as needed to identify trends/issues.
c. Manage monthly charge process and reporting associated with CCS internal service core
d. Manage and maintain Study Management software
e. Implement clinical trial financial education/training programs for CCS staff and throughout Geisinger as needed to support sound financial management of clinical research trials.
f. Provide benchmark data and track departmental performance against benchmarks.

4. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills to interface with all levels of management.
Demonstrate ability to evaluate and make sound decisions.
Demonstrate leadership ability in project management, as well as daily operations.
Demonstrate analytical and, strategic thinking, problem solving and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize effectively.
Adhere to timelines.

Demonstrate computer skills including database and analytical software programs, such as Excel and PowerPoint.

Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree in finance or other business-related field and minimum four years experience in financial management, research or project management required. Experience in healthcare preferred.

Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
