  Geisinger Health System is seeking a fellowship-trained Trauma Surgeon for Geisinger Medical Center (GMC) in Danville, Pa.

 

Join a team of 6 trauma/critical care physicians as part of a multi-specialty group that sees approximately 2,200 trauma cases a year at GMC, a large, academic, Level I adult /Level II pediatric trauma center.

 

A career with Geisinger offers a balance of clinical practice rotating between trauma, emergency general surgery and critical care, and academics. Opportunities exist for developing new programs, research, and teaching up to 25 residents.

 

GMC is supported by a hospital-based air-medical program with six helicopters, and attached to the Hospital for Advanced Medicine (HfAM) which is a $100-million building expansion that includes a nine-story, 300,000 square foot facility housing a heart hospital, including cardiothoracic and vascular surgery services. In recent years, Geisinger has experienced a large increase in number of trauma alerts and acute care cases and increased ICU involvement.

Geisinger Medical Center (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.  GMC, a MagnetHospital, maintains the region’s only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics. GMC offers an array of highly specialized medical and surgical services, including neurosciences, cardiovascular services, transplantation, women’s health (in the Women’s Pavilion), oncology and orthopaedics.  The Hospital for Advanced Medicine serves as an integrated center for the most critical patients. Outpatient services are available on and off campus.

Janet Weis Children’s Hospital (JWCH), located on GMC’s campus in Danville, is the region’s only dedicated 5 floors, 89 bed children's hospital with a full-service hospitalist program. JWCH provides medical malpractice insurance with tail coverage.

Henry Hood Center for Health Research (HHCHR), also located on GMC’s campus in Danville, Pa. was founded in 2003 and is a comprehensive enterprise that promotes traditional health services and clinical, epidemiologic and translational research.
