Meharry Center for Translational and Clinical Research (MeTRC)
Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee
Meharry Medical College is an academic health sciences center with Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Graduate Studies that exists to improve the health and health care of minority and underserved communities by offering excellent education and training programs in the health sciences. True to its heritage, Meharry places special emphasis on providing opportunities for people of color, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and others regardless of race or ethnicity; delivering high quality health services; and conducting research that fosters the elimination of health disparities.
The School of Medicine at Meharry is seeking a senior level scientific investigator to enhance the translational clinical research capacity of its clinical and/or basic sciences departments. This tenure-track appointment may reside within any of the Departments in School of Medicine. Rank (Associate vs. Full Professor) will be determined by the qualifications and documented experience of the selected candidate.
The successful applicant will have documented evidence of active and clinically impactful research and scholarship that contributes significantly to clinical research activities of the department, college, and profession; will have national or international prominence as a scientific thought leader based on their research and scholarly accomplishments; and possess the experience and skills necessary for mentoring medical students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Most areas of medical research will be considered that is intended to reduce health disparities including, but not limited to biochemistry, physiology, genetics, infectious diseases including HIV, immunology, pharmacology, cancer biology, cardiology, diabetes mellitus, gastroenterology, hypertension, nephrology, neuroscience, sickle cell disease, and women’s health. In addition, research in epidemiology, public health, population health, health services, and health policy that will improve minority health are of interest.
The candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a vigorous, extramurally funded research program that focuses on clinical/translational research, and actively train students, postdoctoral fellows, and mentor junior faculty. There will be ample opportunity to develop collaborations with investigators at Vanderbilt University. The Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance supports and facilitates biomedical research interactions between the two institutions, including training programs in biomedical sciences, clinical science education, and community engagement.
