Responsibilities:

  • Teaching of medical students, residents, and geriatric fellows
  • Clinical geriatrics care involving the continuum care
  • Opportunities for clinical research in Alzheimer's disease and End-of-Life Care
  • Palliative, Hospice, and End-of-Life Care programs, working with local hospices
  • Hospital inpatient services
  • Call is 1x month/rotates with hospice unit and palliative care service at Harris and Plaza
  • Average patient load a day is 18

Qualifications:

  • Board Certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine is required
  • Must have formal Geriatrics and/or Palliative care training, (Fellowship and/or CAQ)
  • Experience in dementia evaluation and geriatric education is preferred
  • Must possess excellent communication, clinical, and leadership skills
  • Bilingual Spanish/English or other foreign language is a plus
  • Academic experience is preferred but not mandatory

The GET-IT Program, under Janice Knebl, DO, Chief of the UNTHSC’s Geriatrics Division, has the goal of strengthening Geriatric training programs.
