The Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, Office of Patient Care Services invites you to apply for the position of Chief Consultant, Specialty Care Services. A candidate should be a US citizen with a current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US  The candidate should possess experience as a Chief of Staff or position of equivalent scope and complexity, and level of responsibility in medical specialty care, health policy; be a recognized expert in a medical specialty care area with demonstrated leadership ability; and a Distinguished Physician with national and/or international recognition for scientific, academic, and administrative medicine expertise.

Specialty Care Services (SCS) is located within the Office of Patient Care Services (PCS) and is composed of a number of components that are designed to ensure that the best overall preventive, clinical, spiritual and religious, and nutritional care is made available to the veteran patient. SCS is headquartered in VA Central Office (VACO), Washington, DC and headed by the Chief Consultant. Reporting to the Chief Consultant are a number of VACO and field based national program directors that are responsible for programs related to Genomic/Molecular Medicine, Eye Care, Nutrition, Oncology, Diabetes, Renal Diseases, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Diseases, Podiatry, Anesthesia, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, and Chaplain Services. The national program directors and chiefs preside over a number of Field Advisory Committees that are aligned with different operational services and components as well as specific medical and surgical sub-specialties. In addition, there are over 30 Specific Purpose Programs that are financed by and report to SCS. This structure is set in a fashion that SCS is a large clinical policy-making, program management, advisory, and oversight organization within the Office of PCS. It is composed of a number of highly specialized professional groups that provide program direction and oversight to clinical programs in VA medical centers. The general public, Veterans, Members of Congress, officials of the Executive Branch, members of professional organizations, and employees of other government organizations show considerable interest in the programs.
