An exciting opportunity for a senior clinical academic to work across both the clinical and academic environments as the Chair in Paediatric Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, a joint position with the School of Medicine and the Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service. 

School of Medicine and Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service

The School of Medicine is a leading provider of medical education and medical research in Queensland, with the country's largest medical program. The four-year graduate entry medical program offers an integrated, case-based curriculum including early clinical experiences. The School is a diverse enterprise operating over multiple sites, with Queensland Health and private health service providers as major partners.

The UQ Child Health Research Centre (UQCHRC) is an exciting new research centre in the School of Medicine at The University of Queensland. The Centre comprises seven research groups, addressing the effect of the environment, diet, and infectious diseases on child health, diseases affecting the respiratory and blood system, and the management of burns and trauma. The UQ-CHRC is co-located with research centres from Children's Health Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in a recently completed $100M+ research facility adjacent to the new $1.5 Bn Lady Cilento Children's Hospital.

The Garnett Passe and Rodney Williams Memorial Foundation is partnering with UQ and CHQ HHS to establish this prestigious position. The Foundation was established by the late Mrs. Barbara Williams to honour the memory of her two husbands, Dr Garnett Passe and Mr. Rodney Williams. The Foundation became operative on 16 September 1991, with one of the largest bequests ever made to Australian medicine and one of the largest to Otorhinolaryngology in the world. The Foundation has established an awards program to support clinical and basic research in in the Specialty of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

The role

The Chair in Paediatric Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery is a joint position with the School of Medicine and the Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQ HHS). The appointee will provide research leadership in the field of Paediatric Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, to build and maintain a vibrant internationally competitive research program and to foster the development of clinical academic Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery. The appointee will be expected to develop translational research direction and opportunities in collaboration with established paediatric otolaryngology laboratory researchers. The appointee is expected to move seamlessly between the clinical and academic environments and play a leading role in the drive to integrate and leverage the resources and strengths of both CHQ HHS and UQ.

The person

The successful candidate will have demonstrated expert knowledge and highly developed clinical skills in the area of medicine and surgery of paediatric ear, nose, throat, head, and neck disorders. Applicants must possess a PhD or equivalent doctorate in the area of Paediatric Otolaryngology or a closely related discipline and current registration with/or eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), as a specialist in Paediatric Otolaryngology. Demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels is desirable and a significant track record of research through publications in internationally recognised outlets will be required.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for five years at Academic Level E. Appropriate loadings will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
